The State wide Literacy Program or Book'em is a project which encourages members to read to children in school, grades kindegarden thru grade 5, and give every child they read to a new Scholastic Book. It encourages school volunteerism, permits children to own a book of their own and gives children the opportunity of hearing an adult read aloud. The program is simply volunteer Knights, spouses, teenage children or grandchildren reading short simple books to children in grades K thru 5. The Council chooses a local parish or public school, day care center or after school center, presents the program to the school. Get approval to conduct the program at that school, get volunteers, purchase the books and you are on you way to run a meaningful and gratifying youth program.
