St. Mary's Donates $581 to Hurricane Relief

The Knights of Columbus would like to say Thank You to the members of St Mary Parish this week.  100% of donations from the September 10, 2017 Chat and Chew was donated to those in need after the two hurricanes hit the US during this last month, the one in Texas and the one in Florida.  The money is being funneled to those in need through The Knights of Columbus Charities.  100% of the money donated goes to help those in need.  Because of your generosity we received $281.00 in our basket that morning following both masses.  A parishioner matched what was put into the basket, donating $300.00 to add to what we took in, making a total of $581.00!  Again, I would like to say Thank you to the Parish for the donations.  You are all blessed. Knights of Columbus Council #15611 Sponsors Blood Drive at St. Mary’s Catholic Church

In May the Knights of Columbus sponsored a blood drive in cooperation with the Community Blood center of the Carolinas. Brother Knight Mike Smith lead the program. Below is a thank you message to the Council.

I wanted to thank you for hosting the Knights of Columbus St. Martin De Porres #15611 blood drive this past Saturday. Although we did not meet the hospital commitment goal of 10 pints, we were able to provide 8 pints to the local hospital patients.

I would like to ask if you would consider hosting another blood drive in the Fall. As you are aware, blood is needed on a constant basis because it is medicine for cancer, transplant, trauma and Sickle Cell disease patients. We depend on organizations like Knights of Columbus St. Martin De Porres #15611 to make the personal ask of members and the community to donate blood on behalf of the local hospitals and their patients.

Help us forecast our hospitals blood supply by scheduling the Knights of Columbus St. Martin De Porres #15611 for a fall blood drive. Can we depend on the Knights of Columbus St. Martin De Porres #15611 to host a blood drive in the Fall?

Patients depend on us. We depend on you.

New Book: Ashes to Incense: Emancipation from Jim Crow: The Story of the Rock Hill, South Carolina Oratorians

Fresh off the press, this book was written by Sandi Ludwa for her thesis. Her husband Mike is a member of our Knights of Columbus Council #15611 at St. Mary's Catholic Church.

Ashes to Incense: Emancipation from Jim Crow: The Story of the Rock Hill, South Carolina Oratorians

From the book description:

North against South, a civil war, prejudice, a Protestant South . . . Could Catholicism survive in this hostile environment?

When Fr. Paul Hatch led a dozen young men to Rock Hill, South Carolina, he promised them nothing. He told them more Catholics existed in China than in South Carolina. Little did they know the obstacles they would face as Catholic Oratorians in this small Southern community. Jim Crow thrived, and some locals believed Catholics had tails. Faced with their own “Pearl Harbor,” the men must decide whether to continue their mission and tenets of St. Philip Neri or leave.

Blood Drive Saturday April 29th from 9:30 - 11:30

Local hospital patients are depending on you to donate this Saturday, April 29th from 9:30 to 11:30 at St. Mary Catholic Church-902 Crawford Rd., Rock Hill, SC 29730.

Blood has to be available on the shelves for your family, friends and neighbors when they need it.

Your blood donation is very important to this community. Without you, we would not be able to supply the local hospitals treating cancer, trauma, transplant or sickle cell patients.

Local hospitals need about 400 blood products a day and we are having a difficult time keeping up with the demand. Our Sickle Cell patients require transfusions on a monthly basis and some using an average of four pints per month.

If you know someone that has had cancer, a transplant, sickle cell disease or surgery then you know the importance of blood donation to our community.

On behalf of the local hospital patients and their families, thank you for understanding the importance of blood donation. We look forward to seeing you at St Mary Catholic Church between 9:30 and 11:30 on Sat April 29th.
