2018 Council 5754 Spelling Bee Winners

The Knights of Columbus Council 5754 hosted the Sangamon Valley Spelling Bee Contest on 28 Jan 2018 at the Council Hall in downtown Petersburg.  Eighteen (18) local contestants – representing grades 3 thru 8 – participated in the event with several observers in standing room only. Winners participated in nineteen rounds.

 

Following are the 2017 Winners of the local Spelling Bee Contest – winner information form attached:

 

1st Place – Hunter King, Tallula IL

2nd Place – Nate Keller, Petersburg IL

3rd Place – Jacob Brant, Petersburg IL

 

In the picture, the winners are shown from left to right, Jacob Brant, Hunter King, Nate Keller and Deputy Grand Knight Art Heetel. The top two winners received kindle readers and third place a soft-sided dictionary. All contestants received participation certificates. The host, pronouncer, and judges represent the Knights and their spouses.

Knights of Columbus Announces the 

2018 Springfield Regional Spelling Bee Championship

 

(Petersburg, IL – 3 March 2018) The Knights of Columbus Council 5754 hosted the Regional Spelling Bee Contest on 3 March at the St. Peter Parish Center, Petersburg IL.  The contest was open to all local boys and girls who participated in local spelling bee contests in Petersburg, Springfield and surrounding area.  Five students, representing students from 4th grade through 8th grade, participated in the regional event. Congratulations to all the contestants!

 

After 71 rounds of difficult words, here are the 2018 Winners of the Springfield Regional Spelling Bee Contest:

 

1st Place – Joey Ducaji Springfield, Christ the King

2nd Place – Joey Kessler, Springfield, Cathedral

3rd Place – Jacob Brant, Petersburg, PORTA Jr High

 

The three regional winners will compete with other regional winners across the State of Illinois at the State Spelling Bee Contest set for Saturday, 7 April 2018, 1 pm at the Glenwood Intermediate School in Chatham IL. 

 

In the picture (left to right) the five contestants were:  Jacob Brant, Joey Kessler, Joey Ducaji, Hunter King (Petersburg), Ben Raes (Springfield) and the Council’s host of the event, Grand Knight Lambert P. Fleck IV.  All contestants received participation certificates and the top three winners will receive a plaque - to be presented at the State event.

Annual Lenten Fisdh Fry Council 5754

Council 5754 sponsors a Lenten fish Fry each year on the Fridays of Lent. Council members fry the fish and french fries that are served.  Attached is a picture of the cooks.
