Novena For Our Nation: Praying the 54 Day Novena for Our New president (28 Nov -20 Jan 2017)

The nation-wide prayer campaign - Novena for Our Nation - begins November 28, the Feast of Saint Catherine Labouré (who received the apparition of the Miraculous Medal), and goes until January 20, the Presidential Inauguration.

The "Novena for Our Nation" website is here (You can sign-up to receive daily emails at the website. Also, you can find the daily 54 Day Novena reflections at the website): (If you received emails during our last 54 Day NFON, you do not need to sign-up again).

Here's how the 54 Day Rosary Novena works (it is really very simple) ...

First, we have added a short 1-2 minute reflection for "Basic Training in Holiness." So, participants are not only praying for our nation, but receiving a quality 54 day basic training for becoming the saints we are called to be.

Sign up for the Daily Reflections:

You could just add the intention "For Our New President" to your daily rosary, and simply continue praying the "Rosary Proper" for each day of the week. This would be a way for you to add the Luminous Mysteries.

First Degree Honoree - Sir Knight Tom Murphy

At our first degree ceremony of the 2016-2017 Fraternal Year, Grand Knight Tony Hayward selected Tom Murphy as the Honoree, citing Tom's constant and unwavering enthusiasm for the Knights of Columbus, and how Tom's Leadership (along with his sister Mary's dedicated support) has revitalized our Keep Christ in Christmas card sale program over the last three years.  The only time we don't see Tom at one of our events it's because he's at work.  At the degree ceremony on Thursday 27 July, in which 3 more Catholic men joined the KofC and were aptly instructed in the first principle of our order, Charity, Tom said he was very appreciative of being selected as the honoree, and then spoke to the assembled brothers, encouraging all present to complete all available degrees  to get the most out of KofC membership.

Prayer of St. Francis of Assisi

Lord, make me an instrument of your peace.

   Where there is hatred, let me sow love;

          where there is injury, pardon;

           where there is doubt, faith;

          where there is despair, hope;

         where there is darkness, light;

          where there is sadness, joy.

    O Divine Master, grant that I may not

so much seek to be consoled as to console;

       to be understood as to understand;

              to be loved as to love.

       For it is in giving that we receive;

   it is in pardoning that we are pardoned;

and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life.

Father Michael J. McGivney Prayer Cards

Father Romy blessing the Father Michael J. McGivney prayer cards to be distributed after each Mass this weekend.  Father McGivney founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882 in New Haven CT, as a fraternal, charitable, Catholic organization to help protect his parishioners from anti-Catholic sentiment and prejudice of that era.

This weekend centers over August 12, his birthdate, and August 14, the anniversary of his death.

An excerpt from the Father McGivney Guild website -

People who knew Father McGivney in this period were impressed by his energy and intensity. Father Gordian Daley later recalled, "I saw him but once, and yet I remember this pale, beautiful face as if I saw it only yesterday. It was a 'priest's face' and that explains everything. It was a face of wonderful repose. There was nothing harsh in that countenance although there was everything that was strong."

The Father McGivney prayer has been attributed with providing real benefit to those who pray it, and more.
