On March 29, 1882, thanks to the efforts of Father Michael J. McGivney, the Knights of Columbus received official recognition as a fraternal benefit society.
Our local Council was chartered in February 1993. Saint Gaspar del Bufalo was chosen as our patron and namesake because he was the founder of the Missionaries of the Precious Blood, whose priests staffed the parish for many years. We carry on their devotion to the poor as part of our mission today.
Today we work closely with Most Precious Blood and Queen of Angels parishes, honoring the legacy of our founder as we make a better world according to God’s plan. We are dedicated to families, works of charity, pro-life activities, and many other programs, and are open to all men of the parishes.
Things we Do...
Over the past fraternal year as part of our service ministry, we have:
- Held our Council and District Free Throw Championships
- Advanced two participants to the State Championship
- Held our Keep Christ in Christmas Poster Contest in the parish schools
- Awarded prizes to best entrants from three grade-level competitions
- Held our Catholic Citizenship Essay Contest in the parish schools
- Awarded prizes to best entrants from middle school grade-level competitions
- Hosted quarterly Sunday Breakfast events in both parishes
- Participated in the local Right to Life March
- Provided a Bible and Crucifix for each newlywed couple in both parishes
- Provided financial support for both our Diocesan and Franciscan seminarians
Our monthly business meetings begin with an Officer's Gathering at 6:00PM, followed by Recitation of the Rosary at 6:30PM, then the general meeting itself at 7:00PM. All members are encouraged to attend and take an active part in the Council proceedings.

Prayer to Saint Gaspar for the Church
Saint Gaspar, you loved the persecuted Church, and in the name of God you accepted disgrace and exile. We beg your intercession for the Church today; help us discern how we are to live and promote the message of the Gospel. United with you, may our hearts have compassion for the poor and abandoned. Increase our love for the Blood of Christ, so that we also may be prepared to risk our lives.
We thank God for your good works and example. Strengthen our union with you that we may not weaken, but grow stronger in our vocation to the honor of God and the salvation of souls. Amen.
Prayer for the Cause of Canonization of Father Michael J. McGivney
God, our Father, protector of the poor and defender of the widow and orphan, you called your priest, Father Michael J. McGivney, to be an apostle of Christian family life and to lead the young to the generous service of their neighbor. Through the example of his life and virtue may we follow your Son, Jesus Christ, more closely, fulfilling his commandment of charity and building up his Body which is the Church.
Let the inspiration of your servant prompt us to greater confidence in your love so that we may continue his work of caring for the needy and the outcast. We humbly ask that you glorify your venerable servant Father Michael J. McGivney on earth according to the design of your holy will. Through his intercession, grant the favor I now present (make your silent request here).
Through Christ our Lord, Amen.
