COUNCIL INFORMATION

Council 544 was created in December of 1900, as the first council in the deep South. Representative knights from half a dozen northern cities, including supreme headquarters in New Haven, CT, made the journey to Nashville for the event. It was indeed a testament to the strength and popularity of the order that less than 20 years after its founding, there was a sufficient desire among Catholics to expand the order across what was still a significant regional and cultural divide.

The council's chambers moved many times during the early decades of its existence before settling into a newly built clubhouse in the mid-1960s. In 1998, the council sold the KC Club and moved its chambers to the Cathedral of the Incarnation where they currently reside. Considering the historical importance of the council, both in the spread of Columbianism and of Catholicism in Middle Tennessee, it is appropriate that we are now a part of the Cathedral which has served as the seat of Nashville's bishop for (almost) as long as our council has been around.

Council 544 is proud to be a member of the Cathedral parish community, and much of our current effort in service and fundraising revolves around supporting the Cathedral and its sponsored charities. We remain dedicated to our founding principles, and look forward to another 100+ years of service to the church in Middle Tennessee.
