REVEREND MONSIGNOR ANTHONY E. JAWOROWSKI, 96 years of age, died Saturday, Feb. 22, 2014 at Saint Francis Country House, Darby, PA.
Monsignor Jaworowski was a retired priest with the Archdiocese of Philadelphia who served the faithful for 69 years. He was ordained June 3, 1944 by Bishop Hugh Lamb and served as an associate pastor at St. Anthony of Padua, Cumbola; St. Hedwig, Chester; St. Mary of the Assumption, Coaldale; St. Casimir, Shenandoah; and as a faculty member of Pius X High School, Pottstown. He was a Pastor at Sacred Heart Parish, Clifton Heights and retired as Pastor of St. Adalbert Parish, Philadelphia after 22 years in 1994. Once retired, he resided at Sacred Heart Rectory, Swedesburg, PA for 16 years where he celebrated Mass daily.
Monsignor Jaworowski served as a chaplain of many organi-zations and was a member of the Parish Priest Consultors, the Diocesan Consultors and the Council of Priests. Monsignor Jaworowski was one of the founding members of the Polish American Cultural Center Museum on Walnut Street in the historic district of Philadelphia.
Monsignor Jaworowski was a personal friend of Blessed Pope John Paul II, whom he first met while serving as the regional chairman for the 41st International Eucharist Congress in 1976, when the former Karol Cardinal Wojtyla headed the delegation from Krakow, Poland. The two became friends and corresponded regularly until the Pope's death in 2005.
Monsignor Anthony Jaworowski was the son of the late August and Kazimiera Jaworowski, the eighth child of a family of ten children. He was born in Manayunk where his family owned Javies Beverages. He is survived by his sister Veronica Gromelski, many nieces and nephews, extended family members and dear friends.
A Viewing will be held in the Chapel of St. Francis Country House, Darby at 8:30 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 A.M. on Thursday, February 27th. Interment West-minster Cemetery, Bala Cynwyd, PA. Memorial Masses will be celebrated for Monsignor Jaworowski on Friday, February 28th at 7 P.M. in St. Adalbert Church, 2645 East Allegheny Ave., Phila., PA 19134 and on Monday, March 3rd at 7 P.M. in Sacred Heart Church, 120 Jefferson St., Swedesburg, PA 19405 for his parishioners and friends.
Donations may be made in memory of Monsignor Jaworowski to the priest retirement home of "Villa Saint Joseph", 1436 Lansdowne Ave., Darby, PA 19023.
