S/K Andrew and Joanne Turgeon
Always participating for most of our council activities, the Andrew and Joanne Turgeon family has been selected as our Family of the Month for June 2017. From our Pit Beef stands, to our M&T Bank Stadium concessions, Brother Andy and Lady Joanne are present at these events. Andy was a crew member during our scheduled Highway Cleanup on MD Rt 32 this summer. Joanne serves as the President of the Sheen's Coleens, our Council's Ladies Auxulliary. Andy, Joanne, and daughter Sarah spent some of their vacation time to rebuild and repair homes for the Appalachia Mission. In addition, Joanne performs missionary work in Central America to provide medical and dental services to the poor people in remote locations. We are truly blessed with the Turgeons in naming them as exemplary advocates for charity
Tom, Sherri, and Collin Roden Family
Tom, Sherri, and Collin Roden take the lead in several Church Activities. The entire family attends Mass together. Tom and Sherri are Eucharistic Ministers and Collin is an Usher. Tom and Collin are both 4th Degree Knights of Columbus in our Council with Collin serving as a volunteer member of the District's 4th Degree Color Corps. Sherri is instrumental in the formation of the parishes rosary program. She assists with the preparation, construction, and distribution of rosaries that are sent to our troops around the world and to other church missions. Sherrie's group recently made 500 special Father's Day Rosaries that were distributed after each Mass on Father's Day weekend. For their deep faith and dedication to the Church and our parish, the Roden Famly is our Council's Family of the Month for May, 2017.
Brother Joe and Paula Kirschensteiner Family
The William J. “Joe” Kirchensteiner family is our Council’s Family of the Month for April 2017. Joe and his wife Paula assist the Council in many ways but in particular, they help insure the Council’s Annual Baby Bottle Fundraiser is successful. Proceeds from the Baby Bottle campaign are donated to a local pregnancy center to help women during pregnancy. This fundraiser directly supports our commitment to supporting unborn life and the welfare of women. Joe is currently the Council’s Treasurer and Paula is the Treasurer of the Council’s auxiliary, the Sheen’s Colleens. The Sheen’s support our Council in many ways including sponsoring the Annual Senior’s Prom for area senior citizens; sponsoring the annual Valentine’s Day Flower program for those confined to assisted living situations; and assisting with our monthly Council Socials. Joe and Paula’s children, Maggie and Charles, both attend weekly Religious Education classes.
Brother Douglas Fleming Family
The Sheen Council Family of the Month for February 2017 is the Brother Douglas Fleming family. The Flemings have been an integral part of the success of the Council’s Family Movie Night and Dinner Program. Doug and his family are the tireless chefs preparing the dinner menu for all the attendess at the Family Movie Night events. Doug’s wife, Kim, is an active participant of the parishes “Discovering Christ” program, designed for all levels of faith, teaching the basics of Catholic Christianity and serving as an opportunity to share fellowship, teaching, and prayer within the parish community. Additionally, the Flemings distributed baby bottles after Sunday Masses during the Council’s Annual Lenten Baby Bottle Campaign whose proceeds go toward supporting a local Pregnancy Center. The Annual Baby Bottle Campaign is part of the Council’s Respect for Life Program. The Brother Douglas Fleming Family are exemplary examples of faith, family and community and are congratulated for being designated the Family of the Month for February 2017..
S/K Anthony E. Gioio Family
The Anthony E. Gioio Family is an exemplary example of the spirit of Fr. McGivney's vision. They regularly attend Mass together, they pray together, and they offer all of their time and resources to provide charity to their fellow man. Tony E. is our Deputy Grand Knight, and has been the chairman for our M&T Stadium Concession stand team for the past several years. Tony and his family managed 18-20 volunteers, operating three concession stands at M&T Stadium for three different events from Nov. 29th through the 18th of December raising $1,200 for Special Olympics Carroll County and another $1,200 for Fisher House of Washington, D.C.. In total, Tony and his family supervised 15 events at M&T Stadium during 2016. And, if that wasn't enough, they also planned and cooked nearly all of the food for the Parish Christmas Party sponsored by our Council. While all this was happening, they also planned and attended to their son, Tony C. Gioio's wedding in West Virginai!!
Raymond and Sherry Hohl
The Hohl family is very active in the St Joseph's Catholic Community. Their children Anna, Elise, and Wesley regularly volunteer as ushers during Masses. Ray, Sherry, and Anna are all Extraordinary Ministers of the Eucharist. Ray has served as our Council Lecturer in the past and a key member of the District 21 State Convention Hospitality Suite in Ocean City, MD. Sherry actively supports the Our Lady in America program and has made various presentations about the program during weekly recitation of the Rosary, and at meetings of the local chapter of the Catholic Daughters of America. Ray and Sherry volunteered to lead and coordinate the Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen Council # 7612 Silver Rose Program, escorting the Silver Rose and the Icon of Our Lady of Guadalupe from our sister council St Alphonsus Rodriquez to St Joseph's Catholic Community on Nov 17. The Ray and Sherry Hohl family is designated as our Family of the Month for the Month of January 2017.
The George Snediker family has been selected as the Council's Family of the Month for December 2016. Brother George is our Council’s Inside Guard and our Community Activities Director, George committed many hours coordinating the Council's State Highway Clean-Up project along MD Route 32, ensuring the safety of everyone involved and collecting the trash and bags in the designated areas. George had served many roles in our council activities. One particular is his expertise in cleaning up and cutting down trees at the old St. Joseph's Church in Old Town Sykesville; during our annual community clean up. George also insured the parking lots at the old Council Home on Stang Road were cleared of snow during the winter. Congratulations, Brother George and your family.
Robert and Elaine Semin
Bob and Elaine Semin are actively serving St Joseph's Catholic Community and the Sheen Council. Bob and Elaine prepare mass bulletin for the bulletin's distributed at all weekend masses. Bob and Elaine also participate as Sunday Mass Greeters. Elaine is an active member of the Catholic Daughters of America. Bob volunteered his time to assist St Joseph's fundraising Rummage Sale, from lifting to sorting. He also assisted in selling Car Raffle tickets for the Council's annual fundraising event at both the Winfield, and Sykesville Carnivals this past summer. Congratulations to our September Family of the Month - the Robert and Elaine Semin Family.
Ron and Carole Gauthier
Ron and Carole Gauthier are leading members of the Parish 150th Jubilee Planning Committee and the Parish History Committee. Ron and Carole were given a special assignment by Ft Neville last month to interview Fr Roach of St Bartholomew's Parish to gather information concerning the history of Catholicism in Carroll County. Carole is also a member of the Parish Pastoral Council. Ron and Carole volunteer time and energy to serve coffee and donuts on Sundays after Mass and worked together to establish a Parish Bell Choir as part of the Parish Music Ministry. For their dedication and devotion to their church, their community and Council 7612, Ron and Carole Gauthier are the Council's Family of the Month. Congratulations, Ron and Carole!!
Andy & Joanne Turgeon
Brother Andy and Lady Joanne are active participants in Council and Community events. Andy is a Rt 32 Clean-Up Crew Volunteer and Joanne provides leadership to the Sheen's Colleens throughout the year. Andy and Joanne are regular participants at the M&T Stadium Concession Stand, helping to raise funds for the Council's charitable work. Every year, Joanne volunteers to perform missionary medical assistance work in Central America, providing medical and dental services to the poor in remote locations. We are truly blessed with the Turgeon family as advocates of Charity!!
