Harry J. Canter, MBA, FICF is the General Agent serving the Archdiocese of Washington and parts of Northern Virginia.  A Knight since 1990, Harry joined the Order to continue a family legacy of serving in the Knights of Columbus.  Starting as a Field Agent in 1994, after 4 years as a Field Agent, Harry took on the role of General Agent in February of 1999.  His primary goals as a General Agent are recruiting, training, and supervising Field Agents as they fulfill the vision of Fr. McGivney by serving the Order's families.

Originally from Anne Arundel County, Harry graduated from The Catholic University of America in 1993.  He then went on to earn a Master in Business Administration, with a concentration in Finance, from Loyola College in Maryland.  He also holds the professional designation of Fraternal Insurance Counselor Fellow (FICF).  Harry understands the importance of continuing his education to better himself and the Agents in his Agency.

Harry met his wife Cheryl in Ocean City, and they married in 1996.  The couple has two children:  Katie and Erin, one who is still in middle school and one is now in high school.  Cheryl was in retail for many years and still does some part time, along with being a Certified Spinning Instructor at the gym.  The family attends Holy Family Parish in Davidsonville.  In the past, Harry has served on the Parish Council, and Cheryl has taught CCD to it's youth.

The Canter Agency has consistently been among the top agencies in the Knights of Columbus.  In fact, since Harry took over in 1999, the Agency has finished in the Top Ten 10 out of 14 years.  Working for the Order has always been a family business.  His grandfather sold insurance for the Knights of Columbus in Pennsylvania, his Dad worked for the Knights of Columbus for 35 years, and both his younger and older brother both work in the Canter Agency.  Harry prides himself on recruiting, training, and fostering top level financial professionals dedicated to providing the best service and advice possible to Catholic families.
