House Bill Number 2019--H5555 -- sponsored by Representatives Ajello, Knight, Kislak, Cassar, and Tanzi -- which seeks to legalize Assisted Suicide in Rhode Island, has been rescheduled for a hearing on Wednesday, March 27, before the House Committee on Health, Education, and Welfare. The hearing will be held in Room 101 at the "Rise of the House" -- approximately 4:30 pm, and is expected to last late into the evening as there are many bills on the agenda.
National proponents of Assisted Suicide continue probing various states to determine where next to focus their formidable resources. While we do not expect the bill to proceed to a floor vote this year, it is very important to make a clear and loud statement that Rhode Island strongly opposes Assisted Suicide.
Assisted Suicide is bad medicine, and bad public policy that puts vulnerable populations at risk. It is a recipe for abuse of the elderly and disabled. The concern of the State of Rhode Island should be to improve access to legitimate care for all Rhode Islanders, especially those who are most vulnerable.
After responding to this Action Alert, please share it with your friends, and please consider attending the hearing if you are able. For further information, feel free to contact us at (401) 521-1860 or at firstname.lastname@example.org.
KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS MARIAN PRAYER PROGRAM
A Faith In Action – Faith Program For Your Council
A Higher Purpose
Spread devotion to Our Lady and pray for our brothers and sisters of faith who are at risk around the world through the Marian Prayer Program.
Councils are asked to consider hosting the Our Lady Help of Persecuted Christians icon and to run a prayer service at their parish.
A complete Program Booklet will guide you through putting on the prayer service. Prayer cards with the Image are also given to all who participate in the service.
The 2018-2019 Marian Prayer Program presents the 18th Marian image sponsored by the Knights of Columbus, this time of Our Lady Help of Persecuted Christians.
Each Knights of Columbus jurisdiction receives at least one Marian image, which serves as the centerpiece for prayer services conducted in churches and council meeting places throughout the Order for the duration of the initiative.
Since its inception in 1979, the Knights of Columbus’ Marian Prayer Program has held more than 166,900 local council and parish prayer services with some 20 million participants. This year, the prayer service is intended to raise awareness of the plight of Christians persecuted for their faith and to stand in prayerful solidarity with them.
