Health & Welfare Reort 15 April 2019

Please keep Sir Knight Larry Mullaly of Central Point Council 11258 and Assemble 905 in your prayers. On Monday night, April 1, he fell down stairs striking his head on a brick wall causing a severe concussion and a small subdural hematoma. He is under observation in ICU at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in Medford. Larry has much improved by April 3rd. Apparently the last CT scan showed the hematoma was no longer a concern. Though his neck is sore, several CT and X-rays have shown no damage to his spine so they took off the neck brace. This afternoon he was moved out of ICU and into a regular room (5363), his neck brace was removed, and he has started physical therapy. He still has double vision, and coordination problems that make walking really difficult as he gets dizzy. But he is enjoying his meals and he can get food onto a fork and to his mouth. He is coherent today which he was not yesterday. Friday, April 5th Larry was moved to Rehab (room 2307). This is the first time I have seen a real evaluation of what the effects on his brain from the fall are. They are even doing another CT scan because their evaluation is a little different from the “upstairs" Physical and Occupational Therapist. Besides his eyes being unable to look in the same direction, he has a lot of balance problems, and general weakness. We should know more by tomorrow. His speech seems fine, but he still drifts into sleep in the middle of evaluations and has trouble focusing on a task and with some memory. He is expected to be here 10 days at least. On April 10th, Larry is having a total of 3 hours of intensive physical, occupational and speech therapy (they may discontinue this and do more of the others) every day. This is helping with his balance, stamina, and ability to get up and take care of himself, His eyes continue to be the most difficult to deal with, but they have not worked with them much either. His current date to come home is April 26. Full healing is about 2 years. He is being weaned off of Keppra (antiseizure medication) and then will have no prescriptions. He has no pain anywhere and is able to converse fairly normally. Catherine (his daughter) will be coming the week he comes home and then settle on how much in-home help to hire. In the meantime his Knights of Columbus buddies are keeping the lawns mowed and are installing the extra bars he will need in the bathroom. Please continue to keep Larry in your prayers.

Deacon Jim McVeigh on the afternoon of 7 April 2019 died. The funeral was held on April 16th at 10:30 Mass at Sacred Heart Church - Medford. The viewing took place in the church at 10 am that morning. Deacon Jim had recently transferred his membership to Council 1594 but had been a 10 year member of Council 13407 and was a 4th Degree Member of Assembly 905. Please keep his wife Adele and their family in your prayers.

Brother Larry Park, a 40 year member of Hillsboro Council 1634, passed away on Monday April 8. Funeral Mass was Monday April 15 at Saint Francis of Assisi in Roy. Please keep the Park and Vandehey family in your prayers.

Brother Ralph VanDyke, the last charter member of Forest Grove Council 5074, passed away on March 22. Funeral Mass was Saturday March 30 at Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Verboort. Please pray for the repose of Ralph's soul.
