Crab Feed Coming up Fast - January 19, 2019
Our council is again hosting a crab feed this January. It is our greatest fundraiser. The menu again includes crab, shrimp, pasta, clam chowder, salad and garlic bread. PGK Al Garcia has agreed to chair the event and PGK Adin Selby will run the kitchen. Please contact these gentlemen to offer your support. Br. Scott McCabe will also need help for set-up on Saturday prior to the event. All knights should plan to help sell dinner tickets and TV raffle tickets after their masses on the weekends from Dec. 22/23 until Jan. 12/13. If nothing else, buy dinner tickets and enjoy the event. A full bar will be available. Tickets are $50. (added 12/19/18)
Walk For Life - West Coast, January 26, 2019
The Respect For Life ministry at St. Maria Goretti is once again sponsoring a bus trip to participate in Walk for Life - West Coast, which will be held January 26, 2019 in San Francisco. The point of contact is Gen Andres or Samantha Nguyen at firstname.lastname@example.org. The day begins with mass at SMG at 8:00 and the bus leaves at 8:30, returning at approximately 5:30 PM. Cost is just $15. Registration forms are in the narthex. If you wish to drive yourself, there is a Catholic mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 1111 Gough Street, San Francisco, at 9:30 AM. There is a rally at 12:30 at the Civic Center Plaza and the walk begins at 1:30, which takes about an hour. Information about the Walk and peripheral weekend activities can be found at http://www.walkforlifewc.com/event-info/event-schedule/. Please plan for the whole family to attend and participate in this important event to support the end of legalized abortion. (added 12/20/18)
Congratulations to our new Chancellor and Warden
During the December meeting, we held a special mid-term election. As nominated during our November meeting, Br. Bob Cook was elected as our new chancellor (Br. Darrell has moved to Los Banos) and Br. Hilary Mendonca, Jr. was elected as our new warden. Please congratulate these men on their willingness to serve in their new position. (added 12/19/18)
Chili Cook-Off was a wind-breaking success!
Our Council held a chili cook-off prior to our December meeting. Congratulations to PGK Adin Selby on his first place win with his Tri-tip spicy chili. Second place went to GK Sam Cole and Third place to DGK Damon Thayer. Many thanks to all six brothers who contributed chili, and also thank you to our judges. Special thanks to our Worthy Field Agent Steve Machado for organizing this fun event. (added 12/19/18)
Veterans Day Tri-tip Dinner was Excellent
To honor those who have served our country, our council hosted a Tri-tip dinner on Saturday, November 10, 2018. Though ticket sales were lighter than expected, partly due to a shortened sale time, we still served over 120 dinners. Many thanks to GK Sam Cole for chairing this event and the raffle, Steve Ruch and his kitchen crew for delivering an awesome meal (special thanks to our smoke captain Ted Mandalla), Bob Jett for chairing the bar, and Scott McCabe and his set-up team who out-did themselves in decorating for this worthy event and for the Honored Comrades' Table presentation. Also, thanks to Pat Hanna and the clean-up crew. This was truly a wonderful event for all who participated. Plans are already in the making for next year's dinner to honor our veterans. Thanks to all who worked or just bought tickets and supported with their presence. (updated - 11/12/18)
Thank you for your support of the Parish Festival, October 14, 2018!
Our annual parish festival was a success. Our council accepted responsibility for several events, such as mowing the fields (thank you brothers Pete and Adin), running the bar for both Karaoke Night and the festival, working the water and soda booth, and the All-American Food booth, horseshoes, and providing breakfast burritos for early arrivals. Darrel Casteel took a major role in scheduling volunteers. Additionally, while this is a parish event and not a responsibility of our council, brother Knights served in a variety of tasks, including chairing the event (thank you to brothers Bob Peterson and Steve Ruch and their wives Juanita and Kathleen!), loaning of lighting and advertising equipment (thanks Felipe), security (thank you brothers Daniel and Paul), set-up, clean-up, and maintenance during the event, and festival photographer (thanks GK Sam). Our parish festival continues to entertain and our council is a major part of its success. Thank you to all brother Knights who volunteered their time, talent, and treasure to making this major fund-raiser the success it continues to be. (updated - 10/19/18)
